Synopsis
As a series of dark wars between the bats and the squirrels rages, Vesper, a young bat who dreams of following in his father's path as a Knight of the Moon, and the squirrel maiden Ysabelle are unaware of the devastating events unfolding. With the betrayal of the Starwife, priestess of the squirrel clans, the sacred realm of Greenreach falls to the bats, and Ysabelle, revering duty above all, is called to restore the magical Silver Acorn and repel the invaders. She gathers a motley band of unlikely companions, notably Vesper, once a prisoner eager to slaughter the tree rats, now her devoted knight, and their quest leads through cruelty, treachery and grisly death, but also sacrifice, courage and unexpected love. The second Deptford Histories book, telling the long-ago war mentioned in The Final Reckoning.
