Synopsis
In the second book of the Broken Earth trilogy, a powerful mother and daughter with rare earth-shaking abilities, separated from one another by the catastrophe that opened the series, each try to survive and grow into the full scope of their powers amid the harsh aftermath of an apocalyptic Fifth Season. Essun finds an uneasy refuge in an underground community with its own rigid rules and hidden agendas, while her daughter Nassun, alone and increasingly capable, begins to form her own understanding of what her abilities mean. Both mother and daughter search, in very different ways, for a path back to one another across a broken and increasingly dangerous world.
