Synopsis
The Onion Girl, set in Charles de Lint's city of Newford, opens as Jilly Coppercorn, a middle-aged painter who survived a difficult and abusive childhood to build a stable, meaningful life as an artist, is struck by a car and left paralyzed on one side of her body. While hospitalized, Jilly discovers she can project herself into a dream realm where her body is young and unimpaired, entering a gift her close friend Sophie has long had. There she meets the shapeshifter Joe Crazy Dog, who tells her that mystical beings known as the crow girls may be able to cure her paralysis, but only if she is willing to confront old emotional wounds first.
