Synopsis

It has been sixteen years since the Day of Reckoning, when magic and witchcraft were outlawed throughout Eileanan, the witches killed and their towers of learning destroyed, and the Lodestar, the Inheritance of the line of Aedan that the rulers of Eileanan wield, lost. Not all the witches died, however, and Meghan of the Beasts, Key-Bearer of the Coven, knows that the time is near: it will be by the Pool of Two Moons in the ancient city of Lucescere, among the ruins of the witches' Tower of Two Moons, that their future is decided. As Eileanan nears its darkest hour, Meghan must gather rebel forces to move upon the city, while new allies and new dangers emerge, and the questions of the second book are what secrets lie in the pool's depths and whether the Lodestar can be freed and Eileanan live in peace again.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Witches of Eileanan): Kate Forsyth's six-book Celtic epic fantasy (Pan Macmillan Australia, 1997-2002; Roc in the United States, where the first volume is titled The Witches of Eileanan): a land where witchcraft has been outlawed since the Day of Reckoning, the apprentice witch Isabeau and her ancient mentor Meghan of the Beasts, and the struggle to restore the Coven and the lost Lodestar.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
