Synopsis

One-Horn's daughter is not like the others of her kind. Born of a human father among the satyricorn, a ferocious race of horned faerie, she lacks the horns so prized by her people and is scorned even by her own mother, and a satyricorn without a horn will in the end be killed for it. Her only chance of escape is to capture one of the legendary winged horses and ride it to freedom. So begins a journey of danger, death, love and betrayal that gives her a new name, Rhiannon, the rider no one can catch. Travelling with a group of apprentice witches, among them Lewen, through a land where the dead walk and ghosts haunt the living, she senses what her human companions cannot: dark forces that endanger all of Eileanan. But can they trust the word of a wild and fierce half-human girl?

Notes

  • From the series record (Rhiannon's Ride): Kate Forsyth's return to Eileanan, some twenty-five years after The Witches of Eileanan: Rhiannon, a half-human satyricorn girl who escapes her herd on a winged horse, and the apprentice-witch Lewen, amid necromancy and court intrigue under the rule of Lachlan the Winged.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series Rhiannon's Ride: position 1 of 3: next The Shining City (2005)
  • Internal chronology, within The Witches of Eileanan: position 2 of 9: previous Dragonclaw (1997) · next The Pool of Two Moons (1998)
