Synopsis

The Renegades of Pern runs parallel in time to the earliest volumes of the Dragonriders of Pern series, opening during the events of Dragonflight and continuing through the period covered by The White Dragon. It follows several interwoven storylines tied together by Thella, the renegade sister of Telgar's Lord Holder Larad, who leads a band of outcasts and lawless wanderers living outside the structure of Holds and Weyrs. Familiar Harper Hall figures Piemur and Menolly also appear, drawn into exploration of the unsettled Southern Continent and the discovery of ancient artifacts left by Pern's first colonists. Against the backdrop of the ongoing Threadfall crisis, the novel traces how displaced and marginalized people survive and maneuver at the edges of Pernese society, while Thella's ambitions and resentments set her on a collision course with the established Holds.
