Synopsis

All the Weyrs of Pern brings together protagonists from across the earlier volumes of the series, including Weyrleaders Lessa and F'lar, Lord Holder Jaxom, and Masterharper Robinton, as Pern confronts the long-term menace of Thread. The story turns on the discovery of a buried outpost from the original colonization containing an advanced artificial intelligence called AIVAS, which claims it can help the planet permanently end Threadfall by drawing on knowledge and technology lost since the earliest days of settlement. Word of this possibility spreads rapidly through the Holds and Weyrs, provoking excitement in some and deep suspicion in others, who see the machine's revival of forgotten sciences such as electricity, medicine and printing as a dangerous break with tradition.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
