Synopsis
The Silent Tower opens as Caris, a young warrior monk trained to guard against magical intrusion, witnesses a murder and pursues the culprit through a mysterious portal of inky darkness that leads out of his own world entirely. Reporting what he has seen to the Archmage who oversees his order, Caris is sent to track down Antryg Windrose, a half-mad wizard exiled for his forbidden knowledge of the hidden passages that connect different worlds, since only Antryg's expertise can explain what Caris witnessed and where the killer has gone. The pursuit draws Caris into questions about Antryg's true loyalties and the dangerous knowledge he holds, testing whether the exiled wizard can be trusted with a mission this sensitive.

Notes
- From the series record (Windrose Chronicles): Complete Del Rey/Ballantine portal-fantasy quartet (1986-1994) following computer programmer Joanna Sheraton and wizard Antryg Windrose between our world and the magic-vs-technology setting of the Empire of Ferryth (Stranger at the Wedding is a same-universe standalone following a peripheral character). Confirmed a separate, unrelated universe from this author's already-admitted Darwath and Sun Wolf/Winterlands series.
