Synopsis

The concluding volume of the Mage Wars trilogy, co-written with Larry Dixon, is set roughly a dozen years after the Cataclysm that killed the mage Urtho, during a period of relative peace for the city of White Gryphon that his surviving people built in its aftermath. The story centers on the Silver Gryphons, an elite force of gryphons and humans trained to defend the city, who continue their patrols and duties even though no major threat has troubled White Gryphon for years. Despite the extended calm, the community remains wary, having built alliances with neighboring kingdoms in anticipation that the dangers which shaped its founding could resurface, and the novel follows members of this defensive force as that uneasy peace is tested.
