Synopsis

The Sleeping Beauty, the fifth novel in the Tales of the Five Hundred Kingdoms, follows Princess Rosamund of Eltaria, whose life becomes caught between two overlapping fairy-tale patterns, the Sleeping Beauty story and the Snow White story, as the magical force known as the Tradition works to push her life toward one or the other. After her father's death leaves the kingdom vulnerable, her Fairy Godmother, Lily, arranges a series of trials in which a hundred princes compete for Rosa's hand in marriage, hoping the resulting alliance will protect Eltaria from outside threats. As the competition unfolds, Rosa finds herself drawn to one particular suitor even as magical forces continue working against her, complicating both the contest and her own sense of what she actually wants.

Notes

  • From the series record (Tales of the Five Hundred Kingdoms): A completed 7-book sequence of standalone fairy-tale-retelling novels sharing one meta-fictional secondary world ("The Tradition", a narrative-causality force that pushes real lives toward familiar fairy-tale shapes), published 2004-2012 by Luna/Harlequin.
