Synopsis

The Stolen Heir opens after the original Folk of the Air trilogy, centering on two new protagonists: Oak, Jude's younger brother and heir to Elfhame, now grown into a reluctant prince, and Wren, formerly known as Suren, a changeling raised in cruelty who has become a queen of the icy north with a dangerous and uncertain nature of her own. Wren, isolated and distrustful after her upbringing, is drawn into a fraught alliance with Oak, who has his own hidden motives for seeking her out. The two set out together on a perilous journey through the courts of Faerie, each concealing secrets and agendas from the other even as they depend on each other to survive. Their quest forces both to confront questions of loyalty, trust, and identity, with the stability of more than one realm resting on choices neither is sure they can make honestly.

Notes

  • From the series record (Novels of Elfhame): A direct continuation set in the same Elfhame court a few years later, following Oak (Jude's younger brother) and Suren/Wren; registered Core alongside the original trilogy as one continuous saga in the same world, not a separate universe.

Neighbouring works

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series Novels of Elfhame: position 1 of 2: next The Prisoner's Throne (2024)
