Synopsis
The Stones of Green Knowe is the sixth novel in Lucy M. Boston's series and centers on Roger d'Aulneaux, a boy descended from the Norman nobleman who built the original manor at Green Knowe. Living at the house, Roger discovers two ancient, throne-like stones on the grounds that possess a strange power: seated upon them, he can cross into earlier periods of the house's long history, beginning with the turbulent era of the Norman Conquest in which his own ancestor lived. The stones work both ways, drawing figures from later times into Roger's own era as well, including Linnet, Susan, and Tolly, children who appeared in earlier volumes of the series.
