Synopsis
The third book in the Psammead trilogy, following Five Children and It and The Phoenix and the Carpet. Back in London, the children come across the Psammead again; they pool their pocket money to rescue it, and in gratitude it tells them to buy an amulet, or rather half an amulet. With its word of power the children travel through time to ancient lands in search of the missing half that will reunite their family; they see Julius Caesar in the flesh, but none of their adventures run smoothly, and if they forget the word of power or lose the amulet, what would happen to them? Neil Gaiman has said he loves the books, particularly the Five Children and It sequence.
