Synopsis
The Sunlit Man is a 2023 novel by Brandon Sanderson, part of the Cosmere's blend of fantasy and science fiction, set on Canticle, a small, unforgiving planet where daylight is lethal and its populations survive by living in cities that float and flee the rising sun. A fugitive going by the name Nomad, with a spren companion called Auxiliary, arrives on the planet pursued by a group known as the Night Brigade. He is soon captured by the Cinder King, a warlord who controls his subjects with objects called cinderhearts, capable of destroying a person's mind and will. After escaping alongside two other prisoners, Nomad finds refuge in the floating city of Beacon and becomes entangled in its people's struggle against the Cinder King's rule, even as he tries to keep moving before his pursuers catch up.
