Synopsis
The Sword of Kaigen takes place on the Kusanagi Peninsula, an isolated region at the edge of the Kaigenese Empire long defended by the legendary Matsuda family, renowned for its formidable warriors. Fourteen-year-old Mamoru trains to master his family's fighting techniques, eager to prove himself worthy of its legacy, while his mother Misaki, once a warrior from a distant land before setting that life aside to become a housewife, quietly carries a past she rarely speaks of. When an outsider arrives with unsettling claims about the empire's long peace, Mamoru begins to question what he has been taught, even as rumors spread of an approaching invasion from across the sea. As tension builds within the household, both mother and son must reckon with truths about the empire, and about each other, that neither expected to face.
