Overview
A standalone novel about a retired swordswoman living a quiet life in a remote village of elemental warriors, and her son, whose growing power draws the family back into a war they thought they had escaped. M.L. Wang's The Sword of Kaigen (2019) is set in the same Theonite universe as the author's earlier, publicly discontinued web serial of that name, but is written and can be read as a fully self-contained story with no prior knowledge required. The novel is structured in two halves, moving between a slow-building family drama in an isolated training village and a sudden eruption of large-scale war, drawing on East Asian-influenced setting and martial-arts-inflected elemental magic.
