Synopsis
After his city of Isca falls, the young Macht soldier Rictus is left ostrakr -- homeless and without purpose -- and takes up the red cloak of the mercenary. On the world of Kuf, the fierce, endlessly self-warring Macht are a legend among the teeming peoples ruled by the Great King of Asuria. When the Great King's brother seeks to seize the throne by force, he hires the Macht in his thousands. Rictus and ten thousand fellow mercenaries march deep into the Empire's heart, in a campaign that will make them legends.
