Synopsis
Tom Renfield can see ghosts and work small magic, and he has learned that being noticed is dangerous. Drifting through Oregon, he ends up in the town of Arcadia, where he meets Laura Bolte. Within hours the two are married, and Tom is pulled into her family, a clan of magic users who live at Chapel Hollow and keep to themselves. The Boltes' old quarrel with the townspeople, and the ghost of an ancestor named Peregrine, shape what Tom finds there. As he learns the family's habits and its hidden harm, he has to decide whether to fit in with its ways or work to change them.
