Synopsis
The third and final novel in Joe Abercrombie's Age of Madness trilogy opens after a period of revolutionary upheaval in the Union. The Breakers have seized power and dismantled the old order, implementing radical social change through mob rule and popular assemblies as the banks fall and the old symbols of the Union are torn down. The story follows multiple perspectives, including Citizen Brock, who seeks to become a hero of the new revolutionary age; Citizeness Savine, who must pivot from pursuing profit to ensuring her own survival and redemption; the deposed king Orso, discovering how little his former title means in a world turned upside down; and Rikke in the North, who faces dwindling allies and the threat of Black Calder as riots and a rising People's Army reshape the Union around them.
