Synopsis

Thick as Thieves is the fifth novel in The Queen's Thief series, opening after the Mede Empire's attempted invasion of Attolia in The Queen of Attolia has failed. It follows Kamet, secretary and slave to Nahuseresh, the Medean ambassador, who despite his bondage holds real influence and ambitions within the empire. When Nahuseresh falls out of favor with the Medean heir following the failed invasion, Kamet finds himself approached by a mysterious foreigner claiming to speak for the King of Attolia, offering him a way out of slavery. After a fellow slave warns him that his master has been poisoned, Kamet is forced into a sudden, dangerous decision, fleeing across the desert with an Attolian soldier while trying to hide his master's death from imperial pursuers on their trail.
