Synopsis

A Conspiracy of Kings is the fourth novel in The Queen's Thief series. It centers on Sophos, heir to the throne of Sounis and a former student of the Magus, who was last seen as a minor character in earlier books. When his family's villa is ambushed, Sophos hides his mother and sisters but is betrayed by servants and sold into slavery far from home. After escaping and eventually returning to claim the throne of Sounis, he finds his country fighting a war with Attolia abroad while a civil war tears it apart from within, and he lacks the money and troops to resolve either crisis. Facing difficult choices with serious consequences, Sophos turns for help to his old friend Eugenides, now King of Attolia, and to the Magus, drawing him into the wider political struggle among the three peninsular kingdoms.
