Synopsis

Time's Convert is the fourth novel in the All Souls series, tracing how the vampire Marcus MacNeil first came into being. The narrative moves between two eras: during the American Revolution, the vampire Matthew de Clermont meets Marcus, a young Massachusetts surgeon disillusioned with his puritanical upbringing, and offers him a chance at immortality and a different life. In the present day, in Paris, an older Marcus has fallen for Phoebe Taylor, a Sotheby's specialist, who is beginning her own transformation into a vampire, expecting the process to be easier in modern times than it was for Marcus centuries earlier. As past and present intertwine, the story explores how Marcus's revolutionary ideals about liberty and equality sit uneasily against the ancient customs of the de Clermont family, and how becoming immortal remains as difficult now as it ever was.

Notes

  • From the series record (All Souls Sequence): Continuation novels published after the original trilogy concluded; kept Expanded per this project's convention that a later author-driven continuation beyond a completed original trilogy is classified separately from the Core work.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
