Synopsis
Timeless opens the Generations trilogy with an extended look back at Drizzt Do'Urden's origins in Menzoberranzan, tracing how the friendship between the weapons master Zaknafein and the mercenary Jarlaxle first began, decades before Drizzt's birth. Interwoven with this history is a present-day thread following the adult Drizzt as he faces new dangers in a Forgotten Realms reshaped by recent upheavals. The novel builds out the drow city's politics and the personal history behind Zaknafein and Jarlaxle's bond, laying groundwork that connects directly to Drizzt's own life and choices. As the two timelines advance side by side, the book establishes the deeper backstory that will shape the trilogy's later confrontations between the surface world and the dangers still rooted in the Underdark.
