Synopsis
The king is dead, the Greatcoats, the legendary travelling magistrates who once brought justice to a troubled kingdom with their knowledge of the king's laws and their skill with a blade, have been disbanded and branded traitors, and Falcio val Mond and his fellow magistrates Kest and Brasti have been reduced to working as bodyguards for a nobleman who refuses to pay them. Things get worse when their employer is murdered and they are forced to watch the killer plant evidence framing them for the crime. A royal conspiracy is about to unfold in the most corrupt city in the world, a series of murders that began with the overthrow of an idealistic young king and will end with the death of an orphaned girl, and if the three want to foil it, save the girl and reunite the Greatcoats, they will have to do it with nothing but their tattered coats and their swords.
