Synopsis
The fourth Shadow novel picks up in the immediate aftermath of a violent cliffhanger, with Rhett Walker's companion Sam Hennessy gravely wounded and bleeding in the sand. Rhett, the shape-shifting Ranger known as the Shadow, is willing to defy the counsel of his allies if that is what it takes to save Sam's life, even as his larger calling continues to demand he keep fighting for justice across the weird, dangerous West. Weary in a way that goes beyond simple tiredness, Rhett must protect a ragtag group that includes a coyote shifter, a gorgon nun, and a pregnant woman under his care, balancing his own longing for peace against the pull of the destiny that will not let him rest.
