Synopsis
Tress of the Emerald Sea is a Cosmere fantasy novel by Brandon Sanderson, the first of his Kickstarter Secret Projects, set on Lumar, a world with twelve moons that each rain down spores of a different color, forming seas that ships sail using the spores' strange properties. Tress, a quiet young woman on an isolated island called the Rock, spends her days collecting cups left by passing sailors and harbors feelings for Charlie, the local duke's son. When Charlie is sent away to a royal marriage and fails to return, Tress learns he has been taken captive by a sorceress in the region known as the Midnight Sea. Determined to rescue him, Tress leaves her sheltered life, joining a pirate crew and setting out across waters where the many-colored spores hide unpredictable, often deadly forces.
