Synopsis

Trollbundet is the first volume of The Legend of the Ice People, a 47-book Scandinavian family saga beginning in Trondheim, Norway, in 1581. Silje Arngrimsdatter, seventeen when plague kills every member of her family, is taken in during her time of need by Tengel, a young man descended from the secretive Ice People, a lineage of social outcasts living in an isolated valley. Tengel and his kin carry a curse placed generations earlier by their ancestor Tengel the Evil, whose legacy means that at least one child born into each generation of the family inherits dangerous, sometimes wicked abilities alongside the family's gifts. Silje's growing bond with Tengel draws her into the family's long struggle to understand, and ultimately contain, the curse before their ancestor can act on his plan to awaken and claim dominion over the world.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Legend of the Ice People): The original 47-volume saga (1982-1989) following the cursed Ice People clan across generations of Scandinavian history, marked by inherited supernatural gifts, a medallion-bound curse, and (in its later volumes) an underground kingdom where time itself runs differently. Two later continuations exist (a further ~35 volumes across two more parts, published years afterward) and are not yet catalogued here pending closer genre review.
