Synopsis

Tengel and Silje are living quietly in the Valley of the Ice People, amid its mountains and meadows, with their three children, tentatively accepted by their isolated community. But they are not like the others: their lives are bound up with the legacy of an evil spirit, and their daughter Sol has a frighteningly dark inheritance. When old Hanna, an evil old witch, tells them of their fate, they do not believe her. Then a neighbour betrays them out of fear of exposure, and witchcraft accusations force the family out of the valley into a world where witches and sorcerers are hunted down. Silje reaches out to Dag's birth mother in the city, who learns her son is alive, and the family finds temporary refuge on a remote estate, while Sol grows into an independent young woman yearning for freedom.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Legend of the Ice People): The original 47-volume saga (1982-1989) following the cursed Ice People clan across generations of Scandinavian history, marked by inherited supernatural gifts, a medallion-bound curse, and (in its later volumes) an underground kingdom where time itself runs differently. Two later continuations exist (a further ~35 volumes across two more parts, published years afterward) and are not yet catalogued here pending closer genre review.
