Synopsis
Sharakhai, ruled from time immemorial by twelve cruel, immortal kings backed by the Silver Spears and the mysterious asirim, is the greatest city of the desert. Çedamihn Ahyanesh'ala, known in the fighting pits as the White Wolf, is a young woman from the city's slums who defies the kings' laws by going out on the forbidden holy night of Beht Za'hir, setting her on a path that entangles the four-century-old history of the kings' rise to power with the secrets of her own heritage. As she digs into her dead mother's past and the origins of the immortal asirim who serve the kings, Çeda is drawn toward the hidden Moonless Host, a resistance movement working to bring down the kings' rule, while her skill as a fighter marks her for more dangerous attention within the city.
