Synopsis

Picking up after the events of the first novel, this second book follows Çeda as she has taken a position within the Blade Maidens, the elite order of women warriors sworn to serve the kings of Sharakhai, using her new standing to continue digging for the truth behind the asirim, the tormented immortal beings bound to serve the kings. She comes to believe she may hold the means to free them from their ancient chains, even as unbreakable divine magic stands in her way. Tensions rise further as the kings turn to ruthless retaliation after a defeat at the hands of the rebel Moonless Host, and Çeda's oldest friend Emre has thrown in his lot with that same resistance, straining the loyalties between them as both become entangled in the schemes of the blood mage Hamzakiir.
