Synopsis
Following the battle known as the Night of Endless Swords, in which the Kings of Sharakhai crushed the rebel Moonless Host, Çeda is forced to flee the city she has fought to change. In hiding, she learns that the King of Sloth is quietly building his own power at the expense of the other kings' fragile unity. She reunites with the scattered survivors of the resistance, who now call themselves the Thirteenth Tribe, and works out a plan to return to Sharakhai in order to free the asirim from their servitude. As the kings' alliance frays into open rivalry, the formidable King of Swords is sent to hunt her down, while the Queen of Qaimir and the blood mage Hamzakiir pursue their own designs, drawing Çeda into a widening web of political intrigue.
