Synopsis

Twelve Months is the eighteenth novel, opening three weeks after the battle that tore through Chicago at the end of the previous book, as Harry Dresden grieves a personal loss while helping manage the city's displaced refugees. Queen Mab gives him a new assignment: secure an alliance with White Court noble Lara Raith and repair relations with the fae lord King Etri, using his leverage over his own daughter Maggie as part of the bargain. Over the following months Dresden mentors a young mage named Fitz, tries to be present for Maggie, and continues defending Chicago from lingering supernatural threats, all while beginning to suspect that Mab has her own hidden purpose for tying Lara's magical hunger to his own power. As unexplained dark-magic curses spread among his allies and old enemies begin stirring again, Dresden is drawn toward a confrontation he did not choose.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Dresden Files): 18-novel main sequence (2000-2026, ongoing), narrated throughout by wizard-detective Harry Dresden. Publication order equals in-story chronological order for the entire main sequence. Peace Talks and Battle Ground (both 2020) were originally written as a single novel that grew too long and was split into two by the publisher, released 2.5 months apart, a genuine bibliographic quirk, not a numbering error. A 19th novel (Mirror Mirror) is announced for 2027 but unpublished and is not registered.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
