Synopsis
Battle Ground is the seventeenth novel, picking up immediately as the Titan Ethniu declares war on Chicago following the collapse of the peace talks. Harry Dresden races back to the city with allies including Karrin Murphy, Lara Raith and the shieldmaiden Freydis Gard to organize its defense as Ethniu's Fomor army closes in, wielding the devastating Eye of Balor. Coordinating with a patchwork of factions -- the Winter Court, the Knights of the Cross, the Wardens of the White Council and various fae -- Dresden works to protect both his supernatural allies and the ordinary civilians caught in the coming invasion. As Chicago braces for open war, Dresden must hold together a fragile alliance of groups with their own agendas while facing an enemy whose power dwarfs anything he has fought before.

- Originally conceived as a single novel with Peace Talks; split in two by the publisher due to length.
- From the series record (The Dresden Files): 18-novel main sequence (2000-2026, ongoing), narrated throughout by wizard-detective Harry Dresden. Publication order equals in-story chronological order for the entire main sequence. Peace Talks and Battle Ground (both 2020) were originally written as a single novel that grew too long and was split into two by the publisher, released 2.5 months apart, a genuine bibliographic quirk, not a numbering error. A 19th novel (Mirror Mirror) is announced for 2027 but unpublished and is not registered.
