Synopsis

In a world where the dead have risen, the Church of Real Truth pays citizens who are harassed by ghosts. Chess Putnam, a tattooed witch and ghost hunter, works for the Church, exposing fake hauntings and removing real ghosts. She owes money to the drug lord Bump, who sends her on a dangerous black-magic job. The assignment draws her into an investigation involving an abandoned airfield, a human sacrifice and a conspiracy inside the Church. The book launches the Downside Ghosts series, a dark, futuristic urban fantasy published by Del Rey as a mass market paperback in 2010, narrated by a heroine who is also a drug addict.
