Synopsis

Chess Putnam, an agent of the Church of Real Truth, exposes people who fake hauntings for profit and stops the ghosts that are actually dangerous. She is working a celebrity assignment and trying to help desperate sex workers in Downside. When someone starts murdering them in gruesome ways, Chess believes a ghost is not responsible, but proving it puts her in the path of a killer. She is also caught between two men in her life as they and their employers move toward a violent confrontation. The novel is the second in the Downside Ghosts series, published by Del Rey in 2010, set in a dark urban fantasy world.
