Synopsis
Valdemar is the third book of the Founding of Valdemar series. Roughly ten years after Kordas and his people settled and built the city of Haven, their Tayledras allies begin a slow withdrawal into the dangerous Pelagirs, leaving the young kingdom to become more self-reliant. The region is troubled by rogue mages who exploit magical energy left behind by the Tayledras, and who show no hesitation about allying with dark powers or enslaving magical beasts and even Elementals to serve their ends. King Kordas, still trying to build a government that will not curdle into the oppressive empire he fled, struggles to balance defense against these threats with fostering responsible rule. When he prays for help managing his kingdom's mounting problems, something unprecedented happens at the mystical Grove, setting in motion the arrival of the intelligent Companions and the first Choosing.
