Synopsis

Veiled is the sixth novel in the Alex Verus series and follows Alex, a London diviner, as he takes the unusual step of joining the Keepers, the mage world's law-enforcement body, in hopes of gaining legal protection for himself and the people he cares about against his former master, the Dark mage Richard Drakh. Going legitimate proves difficult, since many Keepers remain openly distrustful of a mage with his history. The situation grows more complicated as Dark mages seek, for the first time, formal representation on the ruling Council, upsetting the balance between the Light and Dark factions. While navigating this shifting political landscape, Alex is pulled into an investigation touching a mysterious auction house and its ties between the criminal underworld and figures in positions of power, testing whether his new authority can actually shield the people closest to him.
