Synopsis
Liyana belongs to a desert tribe whose survival depends on its goddess. Gods can only work magic through human vessels, and Liyana has been chosen to host Bayla, goddess of the Goat Clan, protecting her people from sickness, hunger and drought. On the night of the ritual Bayla never arrives, and Liyana is left alone in the sand. Korbyn, god of the Raven Clan, finds her and explains that the gods of the other clans have gone missing too. He asks her to track down the four other vessels. She gathers a small, mismatched group and sets out across the desert, while the army of the Crescent Empire and its cruel magician Mulaf close in. Along the way Liyana must question what she owes her tribe and what she wants for herself.
