Synopsis
Villemo Kalebsdotter of the Ice People is a force of nature: her fiery red hair and striking beauty leave a strong impression on everyone who meets her, and her yellow eyes mark her out as one of the Ice People with supernatural powers. At seventeen she falls uncompromisingly in love with Eldar Svartskogen, eight years older than she is, partly because everyone says he is of bad blood and a practised seducer. Young, wilful and headstrong, she refuses to give him up despite her family's warnings, though Eldar, for all his youth, is already caught up in rebellion and blood feud. Her blind faith in him costs her dearly, and her story becomes dangerously entwined with that blood feud and with the threat of rebellion between Norway and Denmark, as she learns about love and the startling extent of her powers.
