Synopsis
Nettie Lonesome, a biracial young woman disguised as a boy and worked half to death by the couple who took her in on the Texas frontier, discovers she can see monsters hidden among ordinary people after a chance encounter with a dying stranger awakens supernatural senses she never knew she had. The revelation upends the hard, narrow life she has known, setting her on a path away from the household that has mistreated her and toward a wider, wilder world she is only beginning to understand. Alongside new companions who share her ability to see past ordinary appearances, she sets out across a rough, monster-haunted American West to make sense of her strange new gifts and to decide, for the first time, who she actually wants to become.
