Synopsis
Warbreaker takes place on the planet Nalthis, largely across the neighboring kingdoms of Idris and Hallandren, the latter a jungle nation ruled by a living deity known as the God King and home to a magic system built on color and breath. Vivenna, an Idrian princess, has spent her life preparing for an arranged marriage to the God King meant to secure peace, but her father instead sends her younger sister Siri in her place. As Siri adjusts to life in the unfamiliar Hallandren court and to a husband she has been taught to fear, Vivenna follows her to the capital determined to set things right, only to be drawn into the city's underworld. Elsewhere, the swordsman Vasher, who carries a sentient blade named Nightblood, and a doubt-ridden Returned god called Lightsong move through the same uneasy city as rumors of war begin to spread.
