Synopsis
Whispers of Shadow & Flame is the second Earthsinger Chronicles novel by L. Penelope. It follows Kyara, a cursed royal assassin with a deadly power. She is ordered to capture Darvyn, the leader of a rebel group of life-giving Earthsingers. Her mission becomes complicated when she falls for him, because she is magically bound to hand him over or die. According to Publishers Weekly, the book gives weight to friendships and found family alongside its romance, and it can be read without the first book in the series, which follows a different pair of leads in the same fantasy world.
