Synopsis

Cassel Sharpe comes from a family of curse workers, people who can alter luck, memory, physical health, or emotion through the touch of a bare hand, a rare and feared ability that has been illegal to use since a constitutional amendment made the entire profession a matter for organized crime rather than open society. Lacking any curse-working power of his own, Cassel is the ordinary one in an otherwise crooked, closely knit family, and he has spent three years quietly convinced that he murdered his best friend and first love, Lila, in a fit of uncontrolled rage he barely remembers. When strange dreams about a white cat begin disturbing his sleep at his elite boarding school, they set off a chain of events that forces him to question everything he believes about that night and about his own family's secrets.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Curse Workers): A complete trilogy of contemporary curse-magic crime novels (con-artist families whose touch can curse, in an alternate present-day where working curses is illegal), a different setting from both Modern Faerie Tales and Folk of the Air.
