Synopsis
White Night is the ninth Dresden Files novel, set roughly a year after the events of the previous book. Harry Dresden is called in when a series of deaths among Chicago's minor magic practitioners are made to look like suicides, and he concludes a serial killer is targeting the city's vulnerable spellcasters. His investigation draws in his estranged half-brother Thomas, who has secretly been protecting some of the threatened women, and his former lover Elaine, hired by a coalition of practitioners for protection. As Dresden digs deeper he suspects the White Court of vampires, whose Skavis line feeds on despair, and a mysterious figure known only as Grey Cloak. With the White Council already wary of his loyalties, Dresden must uncover who is orchestrating the killings before the killer claims another victim.

Notes
- From the series record (The Dresden Files): 18-novel main sequence (2000-2026, ongoing), narrated throughout by wizard-detective Harry Dresden. Publication order equals in-story chronological order for the entire main sequence. Peace Talks and Battle Ground (both 2020) were originally written as a single novel that grew too long and was split into two by the publisher, released 2.5 months apart, a genuine bibliographic quirk, not a numbering error. A 19th novel (Mirror Mirror) is announced for 2027 but unpublished and is not registered.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
