Synopsis

Wolf Brother opens the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series six thousand years ago in prehistoric Europe, introducing twelve-year-old Torak of the Wolf Clan, a boy raised in the forest who has an unusual ability to communicate with wolves. When his father is killed by a demon-possessed bear of unnatural size, he extracts an oath from Torak with his dying breath, sending the boy on a quest to reach the distant Mountain of the World Spirit before the demon can cause further harm. Torak sets out largely alone, accompanied only by an orphaned wolf cub he names Wolf, whose companionship becomes essential as the journey grows more dangerous. Along the way he meets the Raven Clan and a sharp, independent girl named Renn, whose knowledge of the forest proves valuable as the two are drawn into an uneasy but necessary alliance in pursuit of Torak's oath.

Notes

  • From the series record (Chronicles of Ancient Darkness): A nine-novel middle-grade saga set six thousand years ago in prehistoric Europe, following the orphaned boy Torak and his wolf companion. The first six novels (2004-2009) tell one continuous story; a further three novels (2020-2022) continue the same characters and world. Ghost Hunter, the sixth novel, won the 2010 Guardian Children's Fiction Prize.
