Overview
Told as a long letter to the vampire who transformed her, one of Dracula's brides recounts centuries spent as his companion, and the slow unraveling of devotion into resistance, in a gothic, epistolary reimagining of the Dracula legend. S. T. Gibson's standalone 2021 novel gives voice to a figure left largely silent in Bram Stoker's original text, tracing her transformation from a devoted, centuries-long companion into someone capable of recognizing her own captivity for what it is. Structured entirely as a single addressed letter rather than conventional third-person narration, the novel folds its historical sweep, moving across continents and decades of the vampire's long life, into an intimate, confessional register rather than a plotted adventure narrative. It sits within a wider recent wave of feminist and queer reimaginings of classic Gothic horror texts, giving interior life to female characters the original novels largely used as props or victims.
