Hope Mirrlees' Lud-in-the-Mist (1926) follows the staid town of Lud-in-the-Mist as illegal fairy fruit smuggled from neighboring Fairyland disrupts its bourgeois order. Mirrlees' only fantasy work, named by Neil Gaiman as one of his favorite novels.
