Overview
Tekumel is an elaborate secondary world originally developed by M.A.R. Barker decades before it reached print fiction, first as a setting for tabletop role-playing. The five novels set there: The Man of Gold (1984), Flamesong (1985), Prince of Skulls (2002), Lords of Tsámra (2003) and A Death of Kings (2003), follow different characters navigating the setting's dense, invented cultures, religions and politics.
The final three novels were published after Barker's death in 2000, from manuscripts he had already completed. Tekumel remains far better known among tabletop role-playing enthusiasts than among fantasy-fiction readers, and its novels are a genuine deep cut.
