Overview
The Harold Shea series is a classic-era comic portal-fantasy sequence co-written by L. Sprague de Camp and Fletcher Pratt. Psychologist Harold Shea uses a symbolic-logic method to travel into worlds built from real-world mythology and literature: Norse myth, Spenser's The Faerie Queene, Ariosto's Orlando Furioso, the Finnish Kalevala, and Irish legend. The five original novellas were serialized in Unknown and other pulp magazines between 1940 and 1954 and gathered into three novel-length volumes: The Incomplete Enchanter (1941), The Castle of Iron (1950), and Wall of Serpents (1960). Both authors are now deceased; the full sequence was later reprinted as one omnibus, The Complete Compleat Enchanter.
