Overview
Jasper Fforde's Last Dragonslayer books, published in the United States as The Chronicles of Kazam, are set in the Ununited Kingdoms, an alternate Britain split into small squabbling states, where magic, once indispensable, has faded: drain cleaner is cheaper than a spell and magic carpets deliver pizza. Jennifer Strange, a foundling in indentured service, runs Kazam Mystical Arts Management, an employment agency for wizards, in place of the vanished Great Zambini. Prophecies of the death of the world's last dragon bring back Big Magic, and with it the greed of King Snodd IV, rival agencies, a mighty sorcerer and an invasion of trolls, which Jennifer and her sidekick Tiger Prawns face with wits rather than wands. The first book was adapted for television by Sky.
